Having studied under Toshinari Ohashi in the art of lute and early music performance, Shoji Nakagawa furthered his education at the Basel Schola Cantorum in Switzerland. Here, he received tutelage in Baroque lute and thoroughbass from Hopkinson Smith, lute song from Anthony Rooley, and medieval lute from Crawford Young. With appearances on television and radio, recitals, and performances held throughout Japan, China, Australia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the United States, he has established a thriving career as a performer. He is also active in the field of composition, having worked on commercial music, educational materials, and guitar music, among others.Notable CDs and publications include "Bach, Weiss Works Collection Volume 1" and "Volume 2" (released by Acoustica Records in Germany) and Lute music of Weiss: The Dresden Manuscript.
